Die Vienna Vikings geben ihre ersten Signings fĂŒr die 2024 Saison in der European League of Football bekannt: Mit Defensive Back Elmeri Laalo und Runningback Karri Pajarinen bleiben zwei SchlĂŒsselspieler des Franchise in Wien, um in der nĂ€chsten Saison auf TitelJAGD zu gehen.

Bei der Bekanntgabe der beiden VertragsverlĂ€ngerungen im Rahmen einer Pressekonferenz am Mittwoch lobte Head Coach Chris Calaycay die Intelligenz und Arbeitseinstellung der beiden finnischen Nationalteamspieler: âElmeri and Karri are outstanding talents, great teammates and smart athletes. It is a pleasure to work with them. We are glad that we were able to sign them for another season with us.â

FĂŒr den 21jĂ€hrige Elmeri Laalo ist Wien die erste Profistation seiner Football-Karriere. Er war ein Wunschspieler von Defensive Coordinator Daniel Auböck, der den Finnen schon einige Monate scoutete. âThe Vikings have a great reputation in Europe, so my expectations were high when I joined the team in 2023. Now, after having been here for an entire season, I can only say that my expectations were far exceeded. Laalo wurde 2023 als âDefensive Rookie Of The Yearâ in der European League of Football nominiert und war durch seine individuellen Performances spielentscheidend bei den Siegen gegen Breslau und Berlin.

Runningback Karri Pajarinen freut sich ebenfalls schon auf seine zweite Saison mit den Vikings. âThe city, the infrastructure and the coaching staff here in Vienna are top notch. The team culture and the Vikingsâ team chemistry are one of a kind. I didnât hesitate a single moment when Coach Calaycay offered me to stay in Vienna.
Pajarinen war â zusammen mit Unit-Kollegen Florian Wegan â maĂgeblich am erfolgreichen Rushing Game der Vikings beteiligt. Am Ende der Regular Season, die die Wiener âperfectâ abschlossen, stehen die Vienna Vikings auf Platz Eins der ELF-Tabelle in Rushing Yards (2.035) und Rushing Touchdowns (27). Pajarinen erlief dabei in 115 Versuchen 560 Yards.
