A day of records for the Vikings
A true football fireworks delivered The Vienna Vikings at yesterday's Home Opener in the Generali Arena. And thrilled 6,854 spectators - among them Federal Minister Klaudia Tanner, who also carried out the honorary pointoss.
.Tuned by the guard music of the Austrian Armed Forces, the reigning ELF champion fired off a brilliant touchdown fireworks display before the eyes of Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner as well as the record crowd of 6,854 - there have never been more fans at a Vikings home game. The crowd is also the highest for an ELF game outside of Germany. Vienna Vikings quarterback Chris Helbig threw four touchdown passes, three of them to Italian wide receiver Jordan Bouah. U.S. playmaker Helbig contributed two more rushing touchdowns - as did running back Florian Wegan, who totaled 135 yards.
Also, TE Florian Bierbaumer, RB Karri Pajarinen and 'all-purpose weapon' Exavier Edwardswrote for the Vienna franchise. The Vikings scored a franchise record of their own in the European League of Football with a total of ten touchdowns and 69 points. The 69 points also marked the second-highest score made by a team since the league began. Overall, the Vienna Vikings offense recorded 667 total yards: 346 passing and 321 rushing yards.
"It was just terrific. The whole arena, the fans, the show and of course the play on the field - We did a lot of things right today. This was a great day for the Vikings and exactly the next step we want to take with our franchise. The next home game is just around the corner
On the coming Saturday, the 24.6. stands for the Vikings the 'return' to the Hohe Warte on the program. For the 2021 founded Vikings franchise, it is the first appearance in the natural arena, but the club's fighting team celebrated great successes in Vienna Döbling in recent years. Opponents of the Vienna Vikings are then the Leipzig Kings. Kickoff is again at 6 pm, the Purple Power Party starts already at 2 pm. There, too, guests can expect a stage show hosted by Walter Reiterer and numerous action stations. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster Austria.
