Saturday was a day of celebration at the Hohe Warte. The reigning champions turned their second home game of the current European League of Football season into a royal feast. The Leipzig Kings, who came to Vienna with a positive 2-1 record, were defeated 47-14 in the end. The Vikings' dominance could be seen in all phases of the game, which also inspired the nearly 3,500 spectators in the historic Naturarena in Vienna Döbling to celebrate.

Already in the first half of the game the Vienna Vikings laid the foundation for the third success in the third season game. The statistics of quarter one and two already speak volumes. While the Vienna offense, led by a strong quarterback Chris Helbig, scored 19 points (197 total yards, 82 rushing, 115 passing), the Vikings defense showed a real performance and allowed only seven(!) total yards of the German guests. The defense, well adjusted by DC Daniel Auböck, shone with an outstanding pass rush and a great secondary.

Playmaker Helbig led the Vikings franchise to a never-threatening victory in his Hohe Warte debut, the US quarterback throwing three touchdown passes to wide receiver Weston 'Mr. Unstoppable' Carr and running into the end zone twice himself. RB Florian Wegan also scored a touchdown. The Austrian running back now holds 297 rushing yards after three games, making him the third-best rusher in the league.

Voices after the game

"It was a super feeling to be back at Hohe Warte. Many players grew up watching Vikings football here. Then this victory and these fans, it was a wonderful evening all around," says head coach Chris Calaycay, who is already preparing for the next game. On Sunday, July 2, the away game against the Fehervar Enthroners is already on the schedule. Kickoff at the league newcomer in Hungary is at 4:25 pm.

"We started very well and had the Kings' offense under control for most of the game. Towards the end of the game, we allowed points, and we want to work on that. As a defense, you always want to keep your end zone clean - even with a clear victory. It was a fantastic feeling to play on the Hohe Warte again. Thanks to all the fans who were loud and made a great atmosphere," said a beaming Outside Linebacker #1 Leon Balogh.
