The champion sets out on a title hunt again with this coaching staff
12 Coaches - 1 Goal. With the announcement of the assistant coaches last week, the 12-member coaching staff of the Vienna Vikings for the 2023 season in the European League of Football is now finalized. "My coaches are doing an amazing job to get our players ready for the 2023 season," said Calaycay.
When the kickoff against Berlin Thunder takes place in the German capital on June 11th at 1 PM, the title defender from Vienna will start the 2023 ELF season. The Vikings' season opener at Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark will be broadcast live on Pro7 Maxx. This will be the first opportunity to see how strong the Vienna franchise team is and how well the Vikings' coaches have worked during the pre-season.
Head Coach Chris Calaycay relies on well-known football personalities in his coaching staff this year, who already impressed with their expertise in 2022. The three "newcomers" in the coaching staff - John Shannon, Michael Hönig, and Marianne Pahkala - were desired candidates. "On one hand, we have kept our defensive coaching staff intact, led by Coach Auböck, and on the other hand, we have added Coach Shannon and his tremendous experience to our ELF franchise," Calaycay said about his OC Shannon and his DC Auböck, whom he coached for many years as a player with the Vikings.
In 2023, Michael Hönig serves as the Special Teams Coordinator, whom Calaycay considers one of the best coaches in Austria. "Coach Hönig's detailed approach to the kicking game and his championship experience in the 2022 Austrian Bowl will contribute to our commitment to having a sound and explosive Vikings special teams."
