A Unique US-themed Game Day
It was the July 4th weekend that called for a once in a lifetime game day program. The franchise was therefore incredibly happy to collaborate with the US embassy in Vienna to add a special US-American twist to the pregame program. For the first time in franchise history, the US anthem was played previously to the kickoff paying tribute to the motherland of our beloved sport but also as a special gesture to highlight the outstanding players and coaches of the team who are American citizens.
The Vienna Vikings franchise wants to thank H.E. Kami A. Witmer, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the U.S. Embassy Vienna, for joining on gameday. It was a huge pleasure to welcome her and her team at the stadium where CDA Witmer presented the official game ball before conducting the coin toss, accompanied to the center of the field by owner Dr. Robin Lumsden and co-owner Joel Nagel.
Das Wochenende des 4. Juli war wie geschaffen für ein einmaliges Spieltags-Programm. Die Franchise freute sich daher außerordentlich über die Zusammenarbeit mit der US-Botschaft in Wien, um dem Vorspielprogramm eine besondere US-amerikanische Note zu verleihen. Zum ersten Mal in der Franchise-Geschichte wurde die US-Hymne vor dem Kickoff gespielt – eine Hommage an das Mutterland unseres geliebten Sports, aber auch als besondere Geste, um die herausragenden Spieler und Trainer des Teams, die amerikanische Staatsbürger sind, hervorzuheben.
Die Vienna Vikings danken S.E. Kami A. Witmer, Geschäftsträgerin a.i. der US-Botschaft in Wien, für ihre Anwesenheit am Spieltag. Es war uns eine große Freude, sie und ihr Team im Stadion begrüßen zu dürfen, wo CDA Witmer den offiziellen Spielball überreichte, ehe sie den Münzwurf durchführte, wobei sie von Owner Dr. Robin Lumsden und Co-Owner Joel Nagel zur Spielfeldmitte begleitet wurde.
